Suture Scissors are designed with a cutting hook-type tip which is used to get underneath the suture.
The patient end of the hook cutting tip is blunt to prevent damage to the tissues surrounding the suture. Once the suture is ‘hooked’ the cutting edge of the opposite scissor blade cuts it and the suture can then be removed.Bandage Scissors are shaped like standard scissors but specifically designed to help atraumatically remove bandages from any patient.
The difference being that one of the blades has a smooth circular disc on the tip which allows the blade to slip beneath the bandage and ensure that the tissues next to the bandage aren’t harmed. The opposite blade is that of standard scissors to cut through the bandage as you close the scissor handles. Safer than the alternative of using a scalpel blade which some people still use.
